The Natural Skin Care Paradigm

Our skin is exposed to a myriad of tough encounters more so when in climates that are not naturally attuned to African skin.

More and more people are considering natural skin care products for black skin to limit chemical exposure, encourage natural and healthy habits and promote healthier skin and wellbeing.

One of the most remarkable benefits of natural skincare is the niche it fits into in markets and the best products tend to be hand made small brands and larger brands who put thought and effort into the ingredients and content of their products.

Some small scale aestheticians actually even use themselves as guinea pigs first, so you can be sure it won’t harm you and see that it works for them. It’s gimmick free, chemical, paraben and toxin free skincare from natural ingredients used traditionally for centuries.

When you use natural skin care products, you feel reassured because you can see ingredients all around you and these are refined with as little chemical processing as possible to keep all the benefits.

Irritation – Most main stream skin care products are filled with artificial colours, harsh chemicals, and fillers, which are known to cause irritation, redness and bad breakouts. However, natural skin care products work for the benefit of your skin as opposed to against it.

Natural products feel different from the moment you apply them to your skin. Think of how good it would feel to apply a natural facial cleanser or moisturiser to your face and have it do Exactly what it’s supposed to do without any side effect. This is what you want to aim for with your daily regimen.

Reaction to synthetic fragrances – Along with artificial colours, you have to deal with artificial fragrances in most non-natural skin care products. The negative reactions that are usually endured can vary from person to person. Some experience terrible migraines, allergy flare ups, sinus issues or nausea.

With potential issues such as these, it’s just not worth using one chemical to cover up another chemical for the sake of a flattering smell. The benefit of using natural products is that you don’t have to deal with this because natural products are going to feel and Smell natural. Any additive you find would be a fragrant oil at most.

Absorption of toxins from skin products -It’s well known that your skin is the largest organ of your body. Therefore, most of what you put on your skin topically, is absorbed internally throughout your body.

Skin is our largest organ and also a gateway to the blood stream. Chemicals rubbed into the skin enter our blood stream quickly — sometimes faster even than if we were to eat them. The average woman applies up to 200 chemicals to her skin every day through cosmetics, lotions and hair-care products.

By using natural health and beauty products, you can eliminate many of these harmful chemicals and replace them with natural ingredients that not only protect you from harm, but can even be beneficial to your body.

Environmentally Friendly – While we strive to look and feel our best, we must remember that products made with toxins and chemicals can be extremely harmful to the environment. And what’s harmful to the environment is harmful to the human race.

Using natural organic skin care products will ensures that we are doing our part on a better environment for ourselves and future generations to come. There is no point in looking and feeling your best when you’re helping with the deterioration of your own environment.

Natural Youthful Appearance -Studies have shown that natural black skin care products have more of a healing and restoring effect on damaged skin cells. This means the results you see from natural products are more evident, especially with acne breakouts, hyper-pigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles and elasticity.

While some of you may gripe about the higher price points of some natural skin care lines, it should be taken into consideration that millions of you spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on products that often strip your skin of its natural oils.

And now as women of colour you’re joining the ranks of those that get plastic surgery, Botox and other forms of augmentations that could be avoided with a little research into natural skin care.

Finally…

The entire point for using skin care products is so that you can keep your skin moisturised, free of dead skin cells in order to maintain your youthful glow and to age/mature gracefully. What better way to accomplish all of these than to do it naturally.

Hi BBFA, natural ingredients certainly play a huge part in my skincare regime, lemon is a firm favourite of mine. I’m so pleased to see you are an advocate!

  2. Hi BBFA,

Yes I agree with the sentiments of this article.
Why is there an increase in allergies?
Yes natural products cost more but how many of us will be happy paying less for processed food and begrudge paying more for fresh ingredients to make up a meal?

Isn’t it it quality all the way with what we feed oursellives with internally
So it should be quality all the way with what we put on our hair and skin externally.
